Note 1:
Dogs from a breeder or pet store will usually go into
their first homes, and dogs from a shelter or rescue, found in an ad, or
from a friend or relative as well as most strays will usually be going
into their second, or subsequent, homes
Note 2:
It is noted that in some cases no interview is necessary,
for those who know each other well to begin with. But the original survey
didn't list this as a choice. As an estimate, answers from people who got
their dogs from friends or relatives will be subtracted and totals corrected
in the next update.
Note 3:
Breed breakdowns still to be done.
Note 4:
This will add up to over 100% since larger dogs are being
counted more than once. This will be redone on next update.
Note 5:
There is a possible error of 7 on "other": added sold,
returned, and advertised to survey 9/24/99
Note 6:
It is possible that younger people are more likely to
be on the internet and see the survey.
Note 7:
Possible errors of 13 in unspecified aggr, added animal,
human, and prey to survey 9/24/99
Possible error of 6 in other, added divorce, noise, health
and allergies 9/24
Note 8:
This may have more responses than people who got dogs
within next year. I think people are answering when the next dog may have
not been aquired during that next year.
